YACHT FOR SEA AND RIVER

OPEN SEA BOAT

Is it possible to create a light and durable boat with the necessary comfort for long-distance travel, but with increased stability, shallow draft and classic sail rigging? This is how DDG yachts appeared – a collective model of important characteristics. A light and rigid plywood hull, covered with fiberglass, is absolutely sealed and reduces maintenance to a minimum, since the yacht is essentially plastic on the outside. Ballast, tightly molded inside the yacht, eliminates many problems associated with external fin keels: corrosion, constantly leaking anchor bolts, massive frame elements. A spacious wooden saloon of a monohull with good habitability is a full-fledged home on a long voyage. The hull contours contain a secret: the vertical part of the side to the first cheekbone, going deep into the water, is an additional lateral resistance. This allowed for a shallow fin, which, along with a flat bottom, resulted in a minimum draft of only seventy-five centimeters. When tacking, the yacht goes with a small heel and has an increased margin of stability. In gaff boats, despite the fact that the hull is almost flat-bottomed, the presence of a deep V in the bow helps to break through oncoming waves well, which improves their seaworthiness. A sufficiently large camber of the sides increases the load-bearing capacity and perfectly reflects splashes and crests, as a result of which the cockpit remains dry even in very fresh weather. Gaff sailing equipment and a junk can be truly appreciated only when you find yourself in the middle of a harsh sea. The absence of large loads on the spars and rigging made it possible to completely abandon expensive deck equipment. Thanks to the low sail center, the DDG yacht feels confident and safe even in difficult weather conditions. There are no parts in the spars subject to great wear, and it is very easy to maintain such equipment in working order.

All of the above reduces the cost of materials and subsequent maintenance of the DDG yacht to a minimum, and this is one of the most important points, especially if the crew plans to sail a lot and for a long time. On a long voyage, this will affect the autonomy and how dependent the sailor will be on the shore.

The design and functional ideas run through all the projects like a red thread: simplicity and accessibility in construction, minimum draft, maximum comfort and volume inside the yacht, a large cozy cockpit and high seaworthiness.

When creating the hulls, we were inspired by the shapes of fishing dories, since they are designed for long-term work in the open sea, often in adverse wave conditions. It is this type of hull that provides the greatest possible comfort on large waves.

DDG projects are complete detailed drawings of the hull, rigging and steering gear, ballast laying schemes and deck detailing. The drawings are supplemented by technical literature describing the entire construction process step by step. A detailed photo album illustrating the key stages of construction is also included.
